Introduction
Visakhapatnam, or Vizag as it was often called, is the ture spot where one can find the beauty of Andhra. From Lakes to cool Beaches, from beautiful Hill Ranges to Caves and Valleys enclosures, Vizag has them all. Vizag also has many tourism spots that represent the Culture and Heritage of the True India.
History
The city is named after the god of valour, Visakha, the son of Shiva and Parvati,
who is also the ruler of the planet Mars and the god of war. This city was ruled
by several dynasties including famous Kalinga's during 7th century, Chankya's
during 8th century, Rajahmundry Reddy kings, Cholas, Golkonda Nawabs
etc.Archaeological sources, however, reveal that the temple was possibly built
between the 11th and 12th centuries AD by the Chola king, Kulottunga. The
antiquity of the region is evident in its mention in the Ramayana and
Mahabharata. This region, formerly part of the great Kalinga empire that
stretched up to the river Godavari, has also been mentioned in Hindu and
Buddhist texts from the 5th and 6th centuries BC, as well as by Sanskrit
grammarians, Panini and Katyayana in the 4th century BC. After independance this
was the biggest district in the country, which was then divided into three
districts viz. Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram and Visakhapatnam.
Festival
Visakha Utsav :-
It has been proposed that VISAKHA Utsav, the tourism festival, would
be organized as an annual event, to focus on the rich cultural heritage of the
area as well as it's achievements in different fields. The festivals reflected
the cultural heritage of the area through cultural programmes and Heritage Tours
on all the days of the Utasv, at different local points. The cultural programmes
covered native music, folk dances and drama. Visakhapatnam has been the centre
of attraction, in the recent years, for the organization of international events
in sports and games, particularly cricket. To showcase the facilities available,
the following different events were organised in the stadium, where the
aforesaid infrastructure was available.
Best Season
Climatically, Vizag can never be really too
hot, not even in summer, when the maximum temperature is 34oC. From
October to March, night temperatures drop to 15oC. There is a cool
breeze throughout the year.
