Pathiramanal Beach
This island lies between Thaneermukkom and
Kumarakom and is accessible by boat only. The green island thus forms an ideal
place for a break in the journey while on a backwater cruise. The mainland
Alappuzha has a vast network of lakes, lagoons and fresh water rivers criss-crossing
it and is a district of immense natural beauty. This beach is a favourite haunt
of hundreds of rare migratory birds from different parts of the land.
Alappuzha Beach
Alappuzha Beach is one of the most popular spots in the
district of Alappuzha. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is around 140
years old. Alappuzha beach is one of the most popular beaches of Kerela located
in the district of Alappuzha. The beach is located at roughly 5 kms from the
Alappuzha railway station and has the Arabian Sea on the west and a large
network of lakes, lagoons and several freshwater rivers intersections.
Krishnapuram Palace
The palace displays the typical Kerala style of architecture by
way of its gable roofs, charmar windows and narrow corridors. The Palace was
built in the 18th century during the reign of Marthanda Varma. There is a museum
of antique sculptures, paintings and bronze articles in the palace. On the
western end of the ground floor is a large mural called Gajendra Moksha
(supposed to be the largest mural in Kerala). . Kayamkulam is 41 kms from Kollam.
Kuttanad
Kuttanad is an expanse of water-logged land lying below sea
level. It bears strong resemblance to Holland in terms of geographical features.
Chettikulangara Bhagwathy Temple
The Bhadrakali deity is said to have miraculous power. The
temple is abuzz with activity in the months of February and March on the
occasion of Bharani.
