Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid
Bhopal's most
impressive monument and the largest mosque in India - Taj-ul-Masjid, is
the most revered in Bhopal, with its matching pair of colossal pink minarets
soaring high above the city skyline, and the three white domes over the
main building, the Darul Uloom Tajul Masjid certainly lives up to
the epithet of "mother of all mosques"
The State Archaeological
Museum
A
fine collection of sculptures are on display here from various parts of
Madhya Pradesh. Highlights of the collection are paintings of various
schools, copies of paintings from the Bagh caves near Mandu and the
statues of Alakshmi and the Buddha.
The Birla Mandir Museum
Birla Mandir is
situated at the highest point of Bhopal. Near the Temple is located a
museum that houses a collection of sculptures from the districts at Raisen,
Sehore, Mandsaur, and Shahdol in of Madhya Pradesh. The stone sculptures
here are mainly of Shiva, Vishnu, and their respective consorts and
incarnations.
The Museum of Man
The Tribal
Habitat or Manav Sangrahalaya (the Museum of Man), located on Shamala
hills of Bhopal, is an open-air museum depicting tribal dwellings, from
all parts of India. The exhibition gives a complete
insight into the architectural features of the tribal houses with
elaborately displayed interiors. There are craft and pottery
demonstrations in the exhibition.
Museum of Natural History
The newly
constructed Regional Museum of Natural History is several
kilometres southeast of New Market. Around a courtyard with model dinosaurs
and colorful murals, there are attractive and well written displays on
biodiversity and ecosystems, and on the geographical history of the earth.
There are also temporary exhibitions, a discovery centre and a film show
at 4pm.
Bharat Bhavan
Established in 1982, Bharat Bhawan a center
for the creative and performing arts, is one of the most unique national
institutes in India. The center
houses a museum of the arts, an art gallery, a workshop for fine arts, a
repertory theatre, indoor and outdoor auditoria, rehearsal room, and libraries
of Indian poetry, classical and folk music.
