Fair & Festivals in Tripura |

There are community-specific festivals in Tripura observed with the related rituals and festivities. The Mog community observes the Way (Lamp) Festival from the full moon of Ashad to the full moon of Ashwin. The Ashokastami, Garia, and Gajan festivals are celebrated in April. Moreover, there are the Rabindra and Nazrul Jayanti, Boat Race festival, Kharchi, Manasa Mangal, Durga Puja, Diwali, Ras, Poush Sankranti Mela and Orange and Tourism Festival that are celebrated throughout the state with great fervor.
Some main festivals of Tripura
Durga Puja
It is a festivity where people of all walks of life irrespective of cast and creed take part. It is observed with much fanfare all over the state in the month October.
Kharchi Puja
The fourteen Goddesses are worshipped every year in the month of July for seven days, which is popularly known as Kharchi Puja. Large number of pilgrims both tribal and non-tribal from different parts assembles there to pay their offers. The place is 6 km. away from the Capital.
Garia Puja
The tribals of Tripura perform Garia Puja on the seventh day of the month of Baisakh (April) for seven days. When the Puja is over, the devotees both men and women take to dancing.
Dewali festival
It is one of the most important festivals of the Bengalese. This festival is observed at Tripura Sundari Temple, Udaipur. A big colorful fair followed by cultural program is held during the festival.
Ashokastami Festival
An important festival of the State followed by a big fair popularly known as Ashokastami Fair is held at Unakoti Tirtha at Kailashaha Sub-Division every year in March/April.
Orange & tourism Festival
Orange & Tourism Festival is organized every year in Jumpui Hill in the month of November during orange season. Kampui Hill is the only Hill Station in Tripura where large number of oranges is grown.
Boat Race
Colorful Boat race is organized by the Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism Department every year at Rudrasagar Lake.
Pous Sankranti Mela
Pous Sanskranti Mela at Tirthanmukh attracts devotees even from neighboring states. Thousands of people (tribal & non-tribal) assemble every year on the occasion of Utharayan Sankranti (on 14th January) at this place to take a holy dip in the river Gomti at its place of origin, known as Tritha
Mukh.
