About 73% of the park?s area is covered with forest and about 10% comprises of grasslands.


Climatic conditions

This national park enjoys a moderate climate. The winter temperature varies from 5 degrees to 30 degrees and the summer temperature ranges from 16 degrees to 40 degrees. The area remains covered in thick fog in the chilly winter mornings. During the monsoon season, the area receives heavy rainfall.

The best season to visit the national park is from November to June. In the winters, you can visit the park during November-February; the pleasant warm afternoons are ideal for exploring the park. The winter season is the ideal time for the safaris and you can also indulge yourself in various jungle activities. In the summer, the average temperature rises to 30 degrees and the period of March-May is considered ideal for maximum animal spotting in the park. Also,during the monsoons, which lasts from June to September, you can visit the park. The area experiences heavy rainfall during this time and a few zones of the park remain closed. The natural beauty of the forest enhances to a great extent during the monsoon and if you wish to get drenched in that shower of splendor, visit the park at this time.

This prestigious national park is the home to a large variety of animals, reptiles, birds, and fishes. Rare species like Otters and Endemic Fish Eating Crocodiles,4 to 5 species of deer, 50 species of mammals, 33 species of reptiles, 7 species of amphibians and fishes are there. Insects include 36 species of Dragonflies.TheDhikala area located in the Patil Dun Valley is most notable for sighting diverse wildlife. The thick vegetation and the presence of the Ramganga and Kosi rivers make this park an apt home for the wild animals, especially tigers.

Wild beasts


The Bengal Tigers are the primary wildlife attraction of this national park. There are plenty of animals for the tigers to prey and feed on and they often remain camouflaged in the foliage, which makes their sighting difficult. Other predominating animals in the national park are ? Leopards, Indian Elephants, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Chinkara, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Fishing Cat, Sloth, Indian Gray Mongoose, Chital, Himalayan Black Bears, Himalayan Goral, Otters, Langur, Yellow-Throated Martens, Indian Pangolins, Golden Jackal, Rhesus Macaques, etc.

Reptiles


Reptiles like Indian Python, Crocodiles, Gharials (fish-eating crocodiles), etc. inhabit this national park.

Avifauna


There are over 650 species of avifaunaincluding many endangered species (both resident and migratory) that can be spotted in the park at different times of the year. Over 50 species of Raptors (birds of prey, such as Eagles, Hawks, Vultures, Falcons, Caracaras, Kites, etc.) are here, which is an excellent example of biodiversity in this park. If you want to get a glimpse of these Raptors, you should explore the Dhikala area of the forest. Crested Serpent Eagles, Blossom-Headed Parakeets, Red Jungle Fowls, Owls, Nightjars, Green Bee-Eaters, Fish Eagles, Tawny Fish Owls, etc. are some of the bird species that are found here.

This national park is known for its abundance of flora and foliage. The entire area of the park is covered with rich vegetation, which includes 51 varieties of shrubs, more than 110 species of trees, over 30 kinds of bamboos, and the extensive grasslands are covered with lush greengrasses that make the landscape a stunning sight to behold. To witness and admire the presence of a diverse variety of flora, many environmentalists visit this park every year. A large variety of tree species could be spotted all over the park and the list should include ? Aamla, Date Palm, Jamun, Maddar, Dhak, Chir Pine, Kanju, Banj Oak, Kanchnaar, Semal, and a lot more. The non-flowering plants include Ferns, Mosses, Lichens, etc. The flowering plants can be seen of different varieties, such as Scarlet Red Flowers, Exotic Orchids, Dodder, and many more. Grasses and herbs include ? Tiger Grass, Cynthia, Bhilmora, Kansi, Khus Khus, Baib, Drymaria Diandra, Clover, Euphorbia Hirta, etc. The species of shrubs include ? Jhau, Ber, Maror Phali, and many more. Certain climbers also make their place in the list of flora present in the park ?Melletia Auriculata, Porana Paniculata, Crypotepris Buchanani, and the like. Artificially planted trees are also present in the park that includes Teak, Eucalyptus, Silver Oak, Bottlebrush, Jacaranda, etc.

Airways

  • The nearest domestic airport to the Corbett National Park is at Phoolbagh in Pantnagar, which is 50 km away from the park. The closest international airport is in Delhi. The other two airports that can be availed are in Dehradun and Lucknow.

Railways

Ramnagar Railway Station is the nearest to this national park. Trains coming from various major cities stop at this station. There is a direct train from Delhi to Ramnagar and the other notable trains available are Corbett Link Express, Ranikhet Express, Kathgodam Express, etc. So, if you are availing of the railway, you need to get down at the Ramnagar station, which is around 15 km away from the park.

Roadways

Ramnagar is connected by a good road network with the major cities and there are a number of Uttarakhand State Government buses that run from Delhi, Nainital, Haldwani, and Moradabad directly to the national park.
