Location of Middle Button Island National Park

The beautiful Middle Button Island National Park is located in the Andaman district of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Established in 1979, the park covers a total of 64 sq km about 200 km northeast of Port Blair. At a total area of 0.44 sq km, the Middle Button Island National Park is larger than the South Button National Park and North Button National Park ? its neighboring islands and national parks.


Climatic conditions

The island has an oceanic climate which is mild and favorable throughout the year. Since the region is situated in the heart of the tropical zone, it enjoys heavy precipitation with the onset of monsoon season in the month of June continuing till October. In summers, the temperature goes up till 30 degrees and it drops down to 15 degrees during winters. The average temperature of the park ranges between 20-30 degrees Celsius.

Middle Button Island National Park enjoys a tourist-friendly climatic condition throughout the year. However, if you want to enjoy the park at its best, choosing the months of December to April is the best option to go for ? as the temperature is the most soothing and pleasant. One must avoid the months of June to October as it rains heavily during this period.


Animals that inhabit the sanctuary

The park is most famous for its exclusive flora and fauna. The animals found here are mainly populated with spotted deer, water lizards and monitor lizards, along with aquatic creatures like dolphins, dugong, sea turtles to name a few. Other marine fauna includesblue whales and fishes down the sea life.

The flora mainly comprises deciduous forests including different variety of plant species such as Calamuspalustris, Dinochloaandamanica, Dipterocarpusgrandiflorus, Hopeaodorata, Artocarpusgomeziana etc.
