Located in the centre of Madhya Pradesh, the Pench National Park has a lot of glories to its name. Awarded for "Best Management" in 2011, the park has an abundance of Bengal Tigers accompanied by a huge variety of wildlife, so if you are the adventurous kind, then this place should be the next place on your bucket list.
One would be amazed to know about this fantastic park which inspired Rudyard Kipling to write "The Jungle Book" and served as the setting
for the same. Along with this, the Pench National Park also found itself to be the perfect location for BBC's documentary on tigers titled as ?Spy In The Jungle? which in turn increased its tourism.
Since the place is a hub for Bengal tigers, it was raised to the status of a National Park from a sanctuary in 1975 and given the rank of a tiger reserve in 1992 under Project Tiger. This place is not only home to, but also humans as around ten villages reside in it.
Divided between the districts of Seoni and Chhindwara, the park has gotten its name from the Pench River flowingthrough it and separating the two halves into equals.
The park totals an area of 758 sq.km out of which the core of the park is 299 sq.km comprising the Priyadarshini National Park and Mowgli Pench Sanctuary. The rest 464 sq.km is the buffer zone.
The place experiences a total of three seasons comprising summer (March-June), monsoon (June- September) and winters (November ? February). It sees temperature sinking to 4?C during winters while the temperature is rising to 42?C during the time of summer.
The Park also experiences an annual rainfall of 1,300 mm.
Since the park sees heavy showers of rainfall, it is usually closed from July to September and the best time to visit the reserve is between November to May.
The area is hot and humid during the summers due to the influence of the river flowing through it, so it would be ideal for one to visit the place mainly the winter season.
As mentioned earlier, the National Park is a home to numerous wildlife and vegetation which makes the place all the most exciting and accessible. The main attraction of this place is the Bengal Tigers which inhabit the place in a vast number.
