The national park is around 800 sq km extended in all directions and is situated in the Aravali hills. The whole area can be separated into dry deciduous forests, grasslands and dry arid regions. Location of Sariska national park

The national park is located in the Alwar region of Jaipur in Rajasthan. It is about 107 km away from Jaipur. The whole territory of the national park covers around 800 sq km and is looked after by the Government of Rajasthan. The Sariska Tiger reserve is well set in the Aravali hills, and the whole area is covered with grasslands, dry deciduous forests, fields, rough scenes, towering cliffs and steep rocky landscapes.

There are two central lakes inside the National Park which are home to many animals especially crocodiles and water snakes and other animals living on land and water. It is one of the familiar getaway places of tourists.

Sariska has got many hills and narrow gorges as it is located in the hilltop of Aravali ranges. The landscape of Sariska has plenty of vegetation like arid and sandy forests, tropical forests, dried grasslands and towering cliffs. The entire region of Sariska consists of minerals especially copper, although mining is banned in the region of Sariska as it was declared as the reserve for tigers.

Climatic conditions

The weather of Sariska is not so specific. The summer months are usually recorded to be very hot as there is dry vegetation and the temperature might be around 49 C. tourists might spot animals near the water bodies. The monsoons are rare here and last till September. So the temperature is still hot in the months of rains too and might get lower only by a few degrees. The winters are the best time to visit the place as the temperature is also low and ranges about 15C to 25C.

The temperature is low comparatively, and the climate is dry with the cool and pleasant type of weather all around the Alwar region. The national park offers a fair amount of fauna in this region due to its aridness. There are innumerable animals found in the Sariska region such as jungle cats, deers, hyenas, antelopes, nilgai, bison and even carnivores like leopards are to be found. The tiger population is given more attention as it is a tiger reserve. Tourist can witness reptiles like snakes in the region also. There are a varied bird species found in Sariska. There is a broad range of birds to be seen in Sariska like sand grouse, horned owl, bush quail, grey partridge, tree pie and many more. These birds are mostly found sitting on trees rather than flying.


The natural vegetation or flora


There is not much greenery to be found in Sariska as it is mostly deserted. But the park is one of the forest areas in the Aravali hills which is a bit enriched with flora. The vegetation found in Sariska is mostly of the dry deciduous type looking at its climatic conditions. 90% of the area is covered with dhok trees. There are other trees available also like Goria, Surwal, Ber, Tendu and Khair. The whole of the national park has a dusty and sandy appearance, but it gets better in the monsoons. At least a little of greenery can be seen during the rainfalls.

  • The nearest airport to the Sariska National Park is Jaipur Sanganer Airport which is about 110 km away from the park. Tourists can opt for airways to reach the place fast as well as quickly.

Railways

The Alwar railway station is the nearest station to the park. Tourists coming from trains can take trains up to Alwar station, and from there they can take taxis to the National park. The Station is about 38 kms away from the park and is well connected to all the major cities of India like Delhi, Kota and others.

All about the Safari Rides


There are amazing and beautiful safaris available in Sariska National Park. The two common safaris available are jeep safari and canter Safari.The safari which is most common in Sariska goes about 3 hours. The safari takes the holidaymakers to different places around the park, and the tourist gets a chance to see animals in their natural habitat. There are also canters available other than the jeeps for safari. Large groups can travel around the national park in canters together. The safaris take place two times a day; morning time is from 6 am to 10 am and evening time is from 2 pm to 6 pm. Although, the timings of safaris might change according to the climatic change.
