Day 01 Welcome onboard and proceed to Agra

Welcome aboard to Maharajas’ Express – your journey begins from Delhi to Agra. Gear up to have an experience of a lifetime and a rendezvous with luxury. The Maharajas’ Express is the luxury tourist train owned and operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which came into operation in 2010 March. Considered as the most luxurious train in the world, it runs on 5 pre-routed circuits that cover more than 12 destinations in and around the North-West and Central India.

Meet your representative and fellow passengers at Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station at around 08:45 pm and get ready with the registration processes and check-in formalities in Maharajas’ Express as you enjoy your welcome drinks with instrumental music being played in the background.

Your dinner will be served onboard at 09:00 pm onwards. Your journey begins at 11:30 pm sharp as your train proceeds to Agra.

Day 02 Agra

Your morning is greeted by the majestic beauty of Agra – the Jewel of India and the land that defines imperialism the best.

Get down from the train to visit the most famous monument of India – Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (1632-1653) as a mausoleum for his favorite queen Mumtaz Mahal, Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The epitome of Mughal architecture, the Taj Mahal is a love-story encrypted in ivory-white marble and a treat to the eyes to watch standing majestically on the banks of the River Yamuna. The tomb is located right at the center of a 42-acre complex that includes a mosque and a guest house beautifully adorned by gardens on three sides.

Once the visit to the Taj Mahal is over, you can enjoy a champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, overlooking the magnificent Taj. Finish your breakfast and come back to the train. There are optional tours, you can choose to visit the tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, often considered as the draft for Taj Mahal or a 5-star hotel spa for your luxury and comfort. You can also go on a private shopping tour. However, it is suggested to contact the Guest Relations Executives well in advance for pre-scheduling your preferred optional activities.

Have a relaxed and lavish lunch onboard and later visit the Agra Fort. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638. Located at about 2.5 km northwest from the Taj Mahal, the fort is best described as a walled city.

If you do not want to visit the Agra Fort, you can opt for an optional visit to the tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah (contact the Guest Relations Executives beforehand), which is sometimes tagged as the Baby Taj or the draft of the famous monument, or a spa, or a private shopping tour, or a visit to Fatehpur Sikri (UNESCO World Heritage Site) or to watch Mohabbat the Taj Show. For these, the Guest Relations Executives must be contacted.

Return to the comfort of the train to continue with your journey to Sawai Madhopur or better known as Ranthambore.

On this day, breakfast at TajKhema, while lunch and dinner will be served onboard. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 03 Ranthambore (SawaiMadhopur) to Jaipur

Reach Sawai Madhopur early in the morning and gear up for an adventurous and exciting game drive at the “Ranthambore National Park”.The area was once the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, and was later declared a National Park in 1973. Be lucky enough to spot several animals like tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard during a safari on a rugged road enjoyed in open vehicles amidst dense forest. It is advisable to carry proper warm clothes and covered shoes or boots, for winters and monsoons respectively.

Return to the train and have a relaxed breakfast. Your journey moves ahead towards Jaipur, have your lunch onboard before you reach Jaipur.

Jaipur is a royal city, and the capital of Rajasthan. The city was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who was the ruler of Amber during the 18th century. Famous for its magnificent palaces, forts and temples, jewellery and blue pottery, Jaipur is a city that reflects a perfect blend of urbanization with traditional and a rich history.

The first place to explore in Jaipur is Jantar Mantar which is a collection of 19 architectural astronomical instruments within the observatory, built in 138 CE by the Rajput ruler Sawai Jai Singh. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and has the world’s largest stone sundial.

The Guest Relations Executives must be contacted in advance for pre-scheduling your preferred optional activities like - spa facilities at a five star hotel or a private shopping tour or visiting the City Palace Museum.

It’s not yet over before you are done with an exclusive royal experience in the city of royal flavors. As you arrive at the venue, you will be greeted and welcomed by the band and the beatings of Indian drums (Nagadas). You may try an opportunity to feed the elephants, bathe or paint them. You may also opt for a joy ride.

You will be served a lavish cocktail dinner over sparkling wine at the venue before boarding the train for your journey onwards to Bikaner.

Your breakfast and lunch will be served onboard while the dinner is scheduled at an exclusive venue like City Palace or Jai Mahal Palace.

Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 04 Bikaner

Your journey continues through the beautiful countryside while breakfast is served onboard. At around 10:00 am, arrive into the desert fortress of Bikaner and relax onboard. You may also opt for any of the optional tours. But make sure to contact the Guest Relations Executive in advance to schedule for the optional activities.

You will be visiting the Lalgarh Palace Museum to see some of the fascinating exhibits on the royal heritage of Bikaner or another intriguing optional is an excursion to Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok which is also known by the name “Rat Temple”. Did the name grab your attention? The bizarre name is because of the population of approximately 25,000 black rats that live, and are respected. The temple pulls devotees from all over the country and curious tourists from all over the world.

Come back to the train to have your lunch onboard. Get down again to visitJunagarh Fort – one of the few forts in Rajasthan that are not built on a hilltop. The fort is a beautiful piece of art, especially the interiors. Built by Raja Rai Singh under the supervision of Karan Chand, the modern city of Bikaner has developed around the fort. You will be mesmerized with the architectural excellence and engineering marvel of Diwan-i-Khas, PhoolMahal (Flower Palace), HawaMahal, BadalMahal and AnupMahal.

Fasten your seatbelts for some real adventure as the royal pageantry begins with a convoy of camels accompanied by musicians takes you for a sundowner in the sand dunes. You will be served cocktails, along with traditional mouthwatering barbeque delicacies as you sit and enjoy traditional folk arts like Langaas and Kalbeliyas.

Return to your coach in Maharajas’ Express by 09:15 pm to get started for your onward journey to Jodhpur.

Breakfast and lunch will be served onboard while the evening barbeque is on dunes. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 05 : Jodhpur

Wake up and witness the Maharajas’ Express running into the stronghold of the Marwar region. Have your breakfast served as you witness the scenic beauty outside. The morning is at leisure onboard, or you may also opt for any of the optional tours that include – a village safari to the Bishnoi village or a luxurious spa or a private shopping tour or a visit to Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum and Jaswant Thada, an imposing marble memoriam built in 1899. Whichever option you go for, make sure to contact the Guest Relations Executive for the optional activities.

Come back to the train on time for lunch onboard, after which you would be taken to visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort – one of the largest forts in India. The fort stands beautifully on a low sandstone hill, as built by RaoJodha in 1459. A visit to the MotiMahal and Phool Mahal built inside the Mehrangarh is worth it. The intricate latticed windows along with the elaborately carved panels and elegantly curved porches are worth treating your eyes and soul with. Take a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market, or get on a tuk tuk (a special kind of rickshaw), get a glimpse of the daily lifestyle of the local residents, while checking out some of the oldest houses and havelis.

Later, you will be treated with an exclusive cocktail evening served with a huge platter of Marwar cuisines and delicacies at the HanwantMahal. Have your dinner while admiring the cityscape with the UmaidBhawan Palace at the backdrop.

Time to come back to the train as it heads towards exploring Udaipur, one of the most beautiful cities.

Breakfast and lunch on this day will be served onboard while the cocktail dinner will be at Hanwant Mahal. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 06 Udaipur

As you open your eyes and set the curtains aside, you will find the train running amidst the picturesque region of Mewar which happens to be one of the most majestic places of Rajputana. The awestruck landscape of the Aravalli Hills arriving into the City of Lakes, Udaipur is worth admiring, enjoy the sight over breakfast onboard.

Get down from the train at 10:00 am and the first thing you do is go for a boat ride in Lake Pichola after which you will visit the City Palace. Being the largest palace complex of Rajasthan, the City Palace walks away with the crown of admiration for its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas.

Mor Chowk is another must-visit where the lavish mosaics of peacock add to its beauty as well as the name given. MotiMahal is famous for its beautiful mirror work, ChiniMahal is decorated in ornamental tiles and the most beautiful ZenanaMahalare some of the places of interests you would be taken to. Up next are the Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide that wait to be visited.

What awaits next is certain to take you back to those royal days and make you feel like a king with the imperial treatment and the hospitality at the Satkar Hall of FatehPrakash Palace reflecting the ancient Mewar glory. There would be a huge spread of Indian cuisine to treat your taste buds with.

After lunch, come back to the train for a relaxed afternoon onboard. Or you may opt for a luxurious spa at a 5-star hotel, but for that contacting the Guest Relations Executive much in advance is a must.

Breakfast and dinner will be served onboard while the luxurious Indian cuisine lunch in Satkar Hall of FatehPrakash Palace. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 07 Balasinor

Reach the princely state of the Babi Dynasty. After enjoying an early morning breakfast served onboard at 06:30 am, reach Sevalia station at 08:15 am to be driven to Balasinor.

The first spot to visit is the Dinosaur Fossil Park where you would see fossilized dinosaur remains of at least 13 species and eggs. Interesting, isn’t it? And that is the reason why Balasinor is also named as India’s Jurassic Park – a village where you would take a walking tour.

Up next is the warm welcome by the royal family in the “Garden Palace”. The royal family would serve you a splendid lunch after which you would come back to your coach in Maharajas’ Express. The last leg of your journey awaits as you enjoy an “Indian Evening” onboard, raising a toast to the memorable experience of the journey so far.

This day, breakfast and dinner will be served onboard while the lunch is at “Garden Palace” hosted by the royal family. Spend overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 08 Disembark and depart in Mumbai

Have your early breakfast and get down at LokmanyaTilak Terminus (LTT) in the financial capital city of Mumbai, at around 08:30 am. Your journey with “the Indian Splendour” tour comes to an end. Save the memories of the journey forever in your heart and the moments captured in your cameras.

This day the breakfast will be served onboard before getting down.
