On this morning, you will drive to Jodhpur (also known as the Sun City or the Blue City), the second largest city in the state and the former capital of Marwar kingdom. The city is in the route of Delhi to Gujarat and was a trading center for copper, silk, opium, etc. Jodhpur is famous for its festivals and fairs, and Teej, Nag Panchami, Gangaur, etc. are celebrated with great pomp. The city has become an important center for both big weddings and movie shoots.
In the afternoon, you will be taken to Mehrangarh Fortress, one of the most massive fortresses in India. It is situated on a low sandstone hill, at an altitude of 120 meters. The fortress, with menacing thick walls, contains - Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, etc. - with expansive courtyards and intricate carvings.
You will then visit Jaswant Thada, built in 1889 by Sardar Singh in remembrance of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, and whose entire structure is constructed out of thin and polished sheets of Marble. Your visit moves to Umaid Public Gardens which contains the Government Museum, with a collection of artifacts showing the rich history and cultural traditions of the region. The transport is at your disposal within the city limits. You will stay overnight in Jodhpur in a hotel.
