India has relaxed e-visa rules for Chinese travelers. The decision was taken when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited India for a meeting with his Indian counterpart in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. The Indian embassy in Beijing has already implemented the changes.
India announced that the Indian visa would be applicable for Chinese tourists for 5 years with multiple entries. The Indian embassy in Beijing reported, “This move will further enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and encourage more Chinese tourists to choose India as a destination for tourism purposes.”
Though India has been offering e-visa service to Chinese travelers for some time now, the number of Chinese visitors has not shown much improvement. As per the sources, only 2.5 lakh Chinese travelers visited India in 2018. Now, Chinese travelers can have a five-year visa with multiple entries to India at $80. On the contrary, the existing rules were valid for only 60 days. However, visas for e-conference are applicable for 30 days from the date of arrival.
It is anticipated that the initiative will help India attract more travelers from China.
