This is one of the most beautiful mosques in Gujarat and in entire India as well. This mosque is very popular particularly for its architectural works craftily done on the ten windows that are quite expansive. This mosque, commonly known by the local name Sidi Saiyyid ni Jali, was set up by Sidi Saiyad, a captive of Sultan Ahmed Shah, and subsequently, it was named after him.

This building is situated close to the grand stature of Lal Darwaza in Ahmedabad and was built a long time prior in the year 1573. The landmark is acclaimed worldwide for its awe-inspiring engineering and interior structuring. The front divider is cut with truly little geometric themes and furthermore, has numerous botanical themes on the divider. Since it was a landmark during the Mughal rule, hence, it clearly depicts the conventional patterns of design during those times. The two sections sticking out from the middle have stone chunks with lovely carvings of creeping trees and furthermore, a selective palm tree. This grid work is the informal image of the lifestyle of Ahmedabad.

The focal window of the curve isn't as wonderful as alternate parts and is by all accounts finished in a rush. It demonstrates the downfall of the Mughal Kingdom and the intrusion of different groups into this district. There are about eight angled windows, which are enhanced with these stone cut mind-boggling ‘jalis’. People believe that an aggregate of 45 skilled workers continued to work at this throughout the day to complete on time. It is indeed a marvelous piece of architecture in Indian history.

The Shatrunjaya Jain Temple complex, comprising about 863 white marble temples, is considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for the Jain Hindus. Placed on the hilltop of Shatrunjaya, which is itself a very sacred site to the Jains, a journey to this cluster of temples is truly a spiritually stimulating experience. The ideals of non-violence and complete devotion that are followed by the Jain religion are very well represented by these temples.

Though climbing up approximately 3750 stairs to reach the temple complex on the top of the hill is not an easy task, still the architectural beauty of the temples and the stunning views that one gets from the hilltop worth all the hard work. At the foot of Shatrunjaya, lies the small ancient town of Palitana.

It took around 900 years to complete the construction of the temple complex and the work was done in two phases – one from the 11th C to 12th C AD and the second phase from 16th C onwards. The credit for the construction of these magnificent temples cannot be given to a single person as these were created by the wealthy Jain merchants. For many centuries, parts of the temple complex were destroyed by the Muslim invaders, non-Jains, and burglars.

It is best to visit these temples very early in the morning to avoid the high temperature that remains during the day. No leather items are allowed in the hill or the temple complex. The visitors should wear appropriate attire. As it is considered the holy abode of the gods, not even the priests are allowed to stay here at night. There is no entry fee required.
