Sacred River Festival

The Sacred River Festival is celebrated for three days in the third week of February every year. The concept of the festival was conceived by Prince Richard Holkar and his friend, Mr. Dieter Meier in the year 2000. The festival was brought into existence to highlight the charm of Indian cultural performances, may it be in the form of dance, instrument or voice. Mostly, Indian cultural performances are performed in temples. That’s why the festival takes place in courtyards, river ghats, and temples of Maheshwar, which is a holy town, nestled on the north bank of Narmada River. During the festival, Ahilya Fort is adorned with flowers, lamps, etc. To be precise, it appears like a bride. It is an absolute delight for people to stay in Ahilya Fort and enjoy the Sacred River Festival in Maheshwar.
