“Shree Baba Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan” is known to be the world’s oldest festival of Indian classical music. This magnificent festival is made possible by the great musicians, the contributors, and the loving devoted audience. It is held to preserve the best Indian classical music and to attract fellow music lovers.

The music festival is held every year in the month of December, mostly at the end of December. It is a three day music festival held at the sacred Samadhi of Baba Harballabh.

It takes place in the city of Jalandhar in Punjab.

The first Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan that is the first Indian classical music festival was held in 1875 in Jalandhar at the Sidh Peeth-Shri Devi Talab.

This grand music festival is held every year for 144 years now, and it is platform very distinctive musicians can perform and exhibit their art and the interested can be part of this experience for free. The fame of this Sangeet Mela has spread far and wide.

It is said that Mahatma Gandhi was once among the attendees in 1919.

The ever-growing great music festival is renowned for where all the ‘greats’ of the Hindustani music was first performed.

It is internationally acclaimed and has experienced the presence and hosted many great musicians and artists. From Bhimsen Joshi to Zakir Hussain and nights of soulful, mesmerizing music.

The origin of the festival lies in the tradition of singing dhrupad couplets in Sanskrit in Punjab by the brahmins.

This musical fair was initiated to be held in the winter season as it is the slackest period of the agricultural cycle, and hence this increases the migration from the rural to the urban areas.

For many cultivators, this was a period of leisure and festivities and a season to enjoy and relax.

On all three days, the Musical Mela starts in the afternoon.

There are acts of artists with different musical instruments like tabla, flute, santoor, sitar, sarangi, and many more.
It includes some vocal acts and some melodic rhythms.

There are a large number of Baba Harballabh’s disciples coming in for the musical fair; they try to impart their love for music to the visitors.one shall need no money to be a part of the music festival, the dining and accommodation are free.
