This is held to celebrate the centrality of Buddhism and is also a perfect chance for the people to remember the 2000 years old past of Andhra Pradesh when Buddhism was predominant.

The festival also hosts native painters, sculptors, and artisans of Vizag to showcase their talent and this gives the organizers a source of revenue. The devotees and the tourists visiting the festival can take part in the events and the preaching sessions.

There are also local handicraft items being sold at the stalls held at the festival.

The festival usually begins on the second Friday in the month of December and goes on for three long days.

Although the festival spreads the Buddhist teachings to the visitors, this is not a religious festival. The major purpose of the festival is to open up the arts, culture, crafts and the cuisines of the state to the tourists and also the youngsters in the local areas.

Apart from the celebrations at Nagarjuna Sagar dam, the tourists can also go see the city of Vishakhapatnam, which is also famous for the Lumbini celebrations held there. The city offers a great time for the visitors as it is decked up beautifully for the celebrations.

This is the best time and the season to visit the state of Andhra Pradesh; there are many other attractions like Secunderabad, Kurnool and Tirupati apart from the Lumbini festival celebrations.
