The history of Sikhism is filled with gallantry and bravery. Amritsar is amongst the most revered sites of the world that holds on the history of this clan. The place derives its name from Amrit Sarovar (pool of nectar) amidst which stands the Golden Temple. This sacred Sikh shrines attracts tourists from all across the globe. Interestingly, Amritsar also has a connection with the various mythical and historical narratives including the epic Ramayana. The fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das founded the city in 1577 that boasts of one of India’s most serene and humbling sights. Frenetic old-city bazaars along with being the haven for Punjabi cuisines, the charm of Amritsar remain un-shattered even with the rapid urbanization of the place.
