The Hemis festival is one of the biggest and the most famous religious festivals of Ladakh. This festival is a colorful one falling on the 10th day (called Tse-Chu in the local language) of the Tibetan lunar month. During this extravagant yet religious festival of Ladakh, traditional dance and local music performances are given. As a part of the festival, a lot of Buddhist lamas gather at the Hemis Gompa and perform the famous and sacred Mask Dance. Day 01 Arrival Delhi

On your arrival at the capital city Delhi, you will be transferred by our staff to your hotel. After getting freshen up, join the briefing session where you get important details of the following day. You can spend the day at leisure or can indulge in some activities of your interest. You can likewise visit the well-known markets and try the delicious street food for which the capital is famous for. Overnight stay in Delhi.

Day 02 Delhi

After having a wholesome breakfast, you can start your journey by visiting the city attractions. You can visit the famous Akshardham Temple, India Gate, and Parliament House. In the later half of the day, you can explore the allures of Old Delhi like the Jama Masjid and Red Fort. Keep your evening reserved for the light and sound show at the Red Fort. After the visits, return to your hotel.Overnight stay in your hotel in Delhi.

Day 03 Delhi- Leh

Early morning transfer to airport for the flight to Leh. On arrival, you will be greeted by our agent and transferred to your hotel. Complete all your check-in formalities at the hotel and take time to get acclimatize. Leh is a beautiful little town which is encompassed between hills and is 3500 meters above the sea level. It is a place where calmness prevails. Leh has beautiful monasteries and historical monuments. Take a day off for your body to get tuned in with the altitude and the atmosphere. Enjoy the view that the hotel has to offer you. In the evening you can go out to explore the local market and the surrounding areas of Leh. Overnight stay at hotel in Leh.

Day 04 Leh

After a tummy filling breakfast get on to a full day excursion to the monasteries and sightseeing of Leh. You can go on a cover the ruins of the Leh Palace, Hall of Fame- a museum built and maintained by the Indian Army and Shanti Stupa. Make your way through the old mud-brick Ladakhi houses. Post lunch, visit the Thiksey Monastery. It is situated at the Indus Valley region and is considered to be the largest Gompa in Ladakh. Continue your tour and visit the Shey Monastery. The Shey palace is home to this monastery and it was also the summer capital of the royal kingdom. SheyGompa also has a high elevated statue of Lord Buddha. Later in the day you can visit the Stok Palace which is the private palace of the present king of Ladakh. The place is very colorful and has a lot of window frames and patola like architecture. After visiting around the city of Leh, return to hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 05 Let- Hemis

After having your breakfast, take a morning drive to Hemis to witness the witness famous Hemis Festival. Hemis is the headquarter of the Drukpa order and all the monasteries throughout Ladakh are administered by it. The hub of activities during the festival is the HemisGompa. The gompa is considered to be the wealthiest and the biggest in Ladakh. It also is house to the largest thangka. It also trains Lamas for the royal monasteries at Leh, Shey and Bazgo. The monastery contains quite a few gold statue and stupas decorated with precious stones. This Buddhist Gompa has two main parts. One is the assembly hall and the temple. The famous and sacred masked dance which is performed by lamas and monks, and special music performances are done in these halls and it is also the major highlight of the Hemis Festival which happens in Ladakh.

The masked dance is said to be dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava. The dance commemorates the celebration of good over evil. During the Hemis festival the local people come out and socialize with one another. In this festival, men are seen wearing cummerbunds and women are dressed in bright headgear wearing a lots of jeweler. A lot of 3-meter-long brass trumpets are played to mark the celebration. En route you can also visit the Thiksey monastery which is a most imposing structure providing a panoramic view of the green Indus valley. After having a gala time, return back to your hotel. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 06 Leh – Alchi – Likir – Uleyotkpo

Post getting fresh and having a wholesome breakfast you can drive to Uleytokpo. Uletokpo is an enchanting village Leh – Srinagar Highway. While on the way you can also visit Alchi village. It is considered for its Alchi monastery which resides on the bank of Indus river. It is considered to be the only monastery that is on the plains. After exploring these two sites you can continue your road trip to Likir Monastery. This monastery is home to Gelugpa sect or Yellow Hat sect. The Gelug sect is considered to be the newest schools of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by Je Tsongkhapa. All the people following this sect wear yellow colored hats. This monastery was founded in the year 1065 by Lama DuwangChosje. The eye-catching part of this monastery is a 25 ft high gold covered Buddha statue. Likir Monastery is an extremely colorful building that offers a breathtaking view of the mountains and above. After exploring the monastery, you can drive to Uleytokpo. Stay overnight at the camp in Uleytokpo.

Day 07 Uleytokpo – Ridzong – Lamayuru –Uleytokpo

Post getting ready, you can start your journey by driving to Lamayuru Monastery, which is around a 2.5hr ride. Once you arrive at Lamayuru you can go on and visit the LamayuruGompa. It is the most famous Gompa which is situated on the Kargil, Himalayas and is considered to be the biggest and the oldest one in that region. This Gompa is house to almost 150 monks. This is also a Gompa which belongs to the Red- hat sect. The gompa has painted walls, collection of scriptures, and statutes of different forms of Buddha. Once you have explored the place wholeheartedly, you can then drive to the Rizong Monastery which is located at the ends of the valley. The monastery is said to be founded by Lama TsultimNim who was a strict follower of disciplines. After having visited a lot of Gompas and getting cultural insights, you can return to Uleytokpo. Overnight stay at the camp in Uleytokpo.

Day 08 Uleytokpo – Phyang – Sputuk – Leh

After getting ready, you can go and visit the Alchi monastery which has beautiful wall paintings. The monastery has ideals of Buddhism and Hinduism both. Post visiting the monastery, you will be driven back to Leh. While on your way back to Leh, you can have a glimpse of the Phyang monastery which has complex features and numerous shrines. Then you can also visit the Spituk monastery which will fall on your way. A lot of ancient masks, antique arms and fine thangkas reside in this gompa. Continue your drive back to Leh. A comfortable stay at the hotel in Leh is waiting for you.

Day 09 Leh – Nubra

This morning after breakfast, leave for Nubra valley, which is the capital of Ladakh. Nubra’s natural beauty will leave you spell bound. The very high altitude makes it an amazing trekking destination. It also has a few Buddhist Monasteries. Nubra valley is also called the Orchard of Ladakh because it has a lot of farmlands. While you are at the Nubra valley you can visit the Hunder Monastery, which is considered to be the largest in this valley. It is made keeping the true Tibetan style in mind.

You can also visit the Panamik village, it is said to be the last village that is accessible to travelers. The village has a lot of hot springs and is a worth visiting place for its sulfur springs and Saichan glaciers. Later you can visit the Khardung-La Pass, which is the gateway to Nubra Valley. It is also the highest motor-able road in the world. Later rejuvenate yourself after this long tiring traveling day. Overnight stay at Nubra Valley.

Day 10 Nubra Valley – Leh

This morning after breakfast, enjoy the atmosphere in Nubra valley. You have the leisure time to explore the city of Leh on your own. Explore the markets and get some last minute souvenirs. Later drive to back to Leh. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 11 Leh- Delhi- Home

Today early morning after breakfast, board a flight to Delhi. On arrival in Delhi, connect to the flight for your respective destination. No accommodation is reserved for this day.
