Explore the unexplored Delhi

Delhi, the national capital of India is not only a place, it is the heart of this country which carries millions of people from different religions and provides a beautiful atmosphere where they live and eat together. It also has three UNESCO World Heritage sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun’s tomb & well known Red fort.

If you love to travel and like to explore different things then it is a right place for you. The city is full of bars, cafes, markets and other fun places like other European cities, but it has some unique and interesting things which will make your travel more interesting.

Few monuments like Qutub Minar, Humayun’s tomb, Red fort, Lotus temple, Safdarjung tomb, India gate, Old fort and many more make this city a place of history. Visiting these monuments are in the travel list and guide book of every travel company but in my this blog i will be unwinding few unexplored parts and activities that you can do in Delhi.

• One must try a Rickshaw ride while visiting the Chandni chowk market in old Delhi. This ride is no less than a rollercoaster and is not for the faint hearted people as the lanes are so narrow that barely a motorbike can pass and in that tiny little street, the rickshaw puller will also be there along with a dozen other vehicles. The pedestrians would be walking, the buyers buying and the sellers selling, all in that tiny little lane. You will ride past multiple shops and you’ll get the feeling that you are going in circles but that isn’t true, the lanes might look similar but you will reach your destination in the end. This ride is beyond one’s imagination and that is why this ride tops my list of unique things to see and do in Delhi.
• If you are a foodie like me, this activity is surely for you. Take a food tour in the streets of old Delhi. Let your taste buds have a fabulous time as you try local street food from few of the best and most famous food shops in Old Delhi. If you are a non vegetarian, then you are in the paradise of Tikkas as the streets of old delhi offer some delicious juicy chicken and lamb tikkas.
• If you are an avid photographer or still learning about your device, come and explore this unusual sight of not so crowded Old Delhi streets on a Sunday or anyday early morning by opting for an Old Delhi photography tour. The reflection from the Jama Masjid’s minarets or it as a whole as a backdrop gives you a really beautiful frame. The empty streets on the ground or the tangled cable wires on the top are some photos that you’d like to capture.
• While you are exploring the busy, crowded and noisy streets of Old Delhi, i would recommend you to just take a few minutes out and step into this old Sikh temple called “Sheesh Ganj”. It is located in the middle of one of the busiest streets but the moment you will step inside, you will find nothing else but peace. It’s so quiet inside that you might be able to hear your own footsteps, rather than the continuous honking or other sounds. The fact that it is surrounded by busy markets from all sides and is still able to offer peace and silence to its devotees has become the reason for me to put this place on my list.   
• Located in Central Delhi, you can also plan to visit Bangla Sahib Gurudwara (Sikh temple) which is open to all religions provides inner peace and the food in its lungar (community kitchen place) removes hunger for thousands of people every day. Here you can eat food free of cost for as many times as you want. You can elect to visit the kitchen and see the food makers and you can also help to make and serve it to the people.
• You can also witness the peace and harmony not only inside the temple but also outside as well as you will find a Roman Catholic cathedral ( Cathedral Of The Sacred Heart )and a hindu temple ( Hanuman temple) within a 3 kilometre radius from the Sikh temple, all managing their devotees and spreading peace and harmony. 
• A gift left by the Britishers, the rail system and their connectivity to multiple cities has been a blessing to the majority of the population of India. Learn more about it by visiting the Rail museum.  It will help you learn more about the Indian railway system and also bring back your childhood memories.
• Zoological park of Delhi will also indulge you in your childhood and definitely shall make your day as here you will see animals like Asian lion, tiger, elephant, antelopes, deers, crocodile, bear, different species of birds etc.
• If you like theatre and want to witness theatre in bollywood style, make sure to pay a visit to Kingdom of Dreams. It is a place of live entertainment drama. It is located in Gurgaon also called Gurugram, a suburb of Delhi. It was very entertaining for me. I along with my friends had booked an evening show and ended up having dinner post the show at the cultural galy ( cultural lane) which offers lip smacking food from all over India. It is open all days except Monday.
• Shopping is every woman’s dream so we can forget shopping while visiting other places. Delhi is very famous for shopping also, here you can do the shopping which will suit your pocket. Budget shopping areas are Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place markets where you can purchase many things at very reasonable rates.
• Delhi’s Akshardham temple is a modern temple and its architecture attracts tourists from all over the world. Go around the temple during the day and in the evening witness shows like sound and light show or the cultural and religious story of Swaminarayan which will give you an internal happiness and in depth knowledge of the place and its history.

My list will not end but as of now during my three visits to Delhi, i was able to explore only these places till now along with the famous monuments of Delhi. I wish to go back to India soon for its food full of flavours, for its rich heritage, the hospitable and welcoming culture and above all , for its incredible and beautiful history and architecture.
