Must eat food in Chandigarh
Where Chandigarh is famous for its big bungalows, luxurious cars and people full of artistic skills, on the other side, the city is also popular for its mouth watering and delicious food. One can also enjoy the Street food of Chandigarh at the roadside Dhabas ( food stalls near roads or highways). Chandigarh is not only famous for its typical north indian Punjabi food but also famous for South Indian, Rajasthani and Indian style Chinese platters. Here in this blog, I will tell you some “must eat food” which you can try when you visit Chandigarh.
1. Gol Gappa:
Gol Gappa is a form of snack which originated by the Indian Continent. A round shaped puri made up of Semolina which is served with a flavored water and filled with chopped boiled potatoes and onion mixture.
After eating this snack, I must tell you that you will be a Gol Gappa lover. This snack is popular in other states as well (In Maharashtra, it is known as “Pani Puri”; In Bengal, it is popular by the name “Puchuka”)
2. Dahi Bhalla:
Dahi Bhalla is a favorite sweet dish amongst the people of India. It is an extravagant dish which is prepared with the help of sweet curd, a deep fried dough made from pulses, strands of ginger, coriander and topped with some sweet tamarind and spice mint salsa and pomegranate seeds. It is a dish which is easy to digest.
If you are visiting Chandigarh, then I will recommend you to try this mouth-watering and delicious food.
3. Chole – Bhature :
If you are visiting Chandigarh and come back without having a dish named Chole Bhature, then you are missing a big thing in your life. The recipe of Chole Bhature consists of a spicy chickpeas in a curry base with an indian deep fried bread made up of flour. It is served with chopped onions, pickle and cilantro and mint salsa which takes the taste of this to all together a different level.
In my opinion, if you are visiting Chandigarh, then this dish is a must try food of Chandigarh.
4. Pav Bhaji:
Pav bhaji is a unique fast food as well as street food dish in Mumbai and other cities as well. Pav bhaji is a mixture of different kinds of vegetables, mashed together to make it more like a paste, mixed with spices and garnished with some coriander and heaps of butter. Once it’s done, it is served on your table with some pieces of bread. The stalls of Pav bhaji can be easily found on any beaches in the city of dreams – Bombay.
5. Amritsari Naan:
It is a typical North Indian dish. It is made up of wheat flour which is filled with the stuffing of Cottage cheese, Cheese, Potatoes and/or Onion. It is prepared with the help of a Tandoor (a gas stove made up of clay). It is served with a spicy chickpeas curry and some chopped onions.
It is a must eat food in Chandigarh. You can also find this dish at each and every stop during your tour in Chandigarh.
6. Sarso da Saag and Makki di Roti:
This dish is quite famous amongst the people of India. Sarso or Mustard greens are prepared with the help of some Indian spices and served with cornbread and some pieces of radish. It is an important food of Punjab. The people of India prefer to eat this dish in the Winter Season.
If you are visiting some roadside restaurants or a Dhaba, then in my opinion, it is a must try food.
This drink is popular in the state named Punjab. The people of Punjab prefer to drink the Lassi with their every meal. Lassi o butter milk is a yogurt based drink which is prepared by fruits and spices. The people prefer this drink usually in the summer season.
If you are visiting Chandigarh, then you must try this drink from the local restaurants or from some Dhaba’s.
Well I visited Chandigarh last year, and tried the food: Chole Bhature with Lassi. I must tell you that when I had the first sip of Lassi and first bite of Chole Bhature, I experienced a different level of taste. In my trip to Chandigarh, every morning I tried to taste these mouth watering food as it gave me a fresh start to my day.
