Places to Explore in Mumbai

Mumbai is a famous city which is located on the western coast near the Arabian sea. The previous name of this city was “Bombay”. This city especially holds a place in the people’s hearts because of the film industry (Bollywood). Many Bollywood stars live in this city. Here in this blog, I will tell you some other places also in Mumbai which you can explore while visiting the city which never sleeps – Mumbai.

Places to visit in Mumbai:

Gateway of India: Situated at the Apollo Bunder area of South Mumbai, Gateway of India is a very important benchmark of Mumbai. This monument was constructed to memorialize the advent of Queen Mary and King George, but they were only able to see the cardboard sculpture of this monument. This monument is the combo of both Hindu and Muslim architecture. The design of this magnificent monument looks like a Hindu sculpture and the Arc is the symbol of Muslim architecture.

This monument is open 7 days a week and there are no entry fees to see the beauty of this beautiful monument.

Elephanta caves: Basically, it is a collection of cave shaped temples that are dedicated to Hindu Lord Shiva. These caves are situated 7kms away from Mumbai’s Mainland shore on Elephanta Island. A person can reach these caves by approx. A 01-hour boat ride from Gateway of India and he/she can cover these beautiful caves in around 2 -3 hours.

Note: These caves are closed on Mondays.

Entrance Fees:

Indian citizens and SAARC Countries: INR 30 per head for adults

Foreign Travellers: INR 500 per head

Children (below 15): Free.

Dharavi Tour (Slum Tour): Situated between 2 main suburban rail lines, Dharavi is the largest slum in Asia. There are around 700000 people in this slum. In this slum area, there are small factories that provide a little amount of wages to their workers by which they earn their living. If one wants to witness the day to day activities of a person who engages himself to earn a living for him and his family daily, then Dharavi brings that view in front of you.

Here you can see the lower-class family who fill their lives with happy moments despite so many problems in their lives. This slum will tell you about how a person can live his life with a small number of resources. In my opinion, a tour in this slum area will give a traveller a different kind of experience.

You don’t need to spend anything to visit this slum. However, many travel agencies charge some amount of money to provide this slum tour.

When to visit Dharavi? –  You can visit Dharavi throughout the year but here I will recommend you not to visit this slum area in the monsoon period as in this period, the streets will be filled with dirty water.

Juhu Beach:  A very famous beach of India, Juhu Beach is also a desired location for so many film directors. Also if you are a Bollywood lover, then I am pretty sure that you will love this place as you will find so many celebrities’ houses near this beach. Tourists love this beach because of its beautiful and peaceful atmosphere.

Here also you will see a lot of street food stalls which offer a different variety of foods. If you are visiting Mumbai, then don’t forget to try Vada Pav, Pani puri

I am pretty sure that watching the sunset on this beach will give a different kind of experience.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park:  Sanjay Gandhi National Park is an excellent place to enjoy your time with your family and loved ones. Here many times, the visitors have spotted Leopards, Sunbirds, Flying fox, Boars, Lions, Macaques, Kingfisher. Kanheri Caves is the main attraction of this park as it is said that these caves are around 2000 years old. These caves are arched in a rocky cliff.

Film City: Film City is situated at East Goregaon near Sanjay Gandhi National park. Here you can see theatres, recording rooms, gardens as well as many locations of Bollywood movies. If you love Bollywood movies, then you will find this place very interesting.
